The 30th KFAW Foreign Correspondents Wanted!!

The Kitakyushu Forum on Asian Women (KFAW) is looking for four Foreign Correspondents (FCs) to be engaged in information gathering and analyzing on gender equality, and empowerment of women as well as some public information activities for KFAW. Any person who wants to join our FC must apply by June 10, 2020. Number of recruits, qualification, duties and honorarium as well as application are as follows:

Qualification
Anyone who meets the following requirements can apply for this job:

  1. Having a good command of English
  2. Having necessary equipment such as a computer, camera, headset or microphone to attend a web meeting
  3. Residing outside of Japan, preferably in Asia and the Pacific region

 

Responsibilities 

2 essay submissions and a web conference participation

  1. To submit a short essay in English or Japanese, twice a year (in June and December) on the themes below in the country where you reside. You may select one or more of the themes for your essay. Please note that the essay that you have submitted when applying this job will become the first report as a KFAW FC.

     

    During your application process, you may wish to consult the United Nations website regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

     

    This year’s themes are:

     

    A. Serious effects given by climate change in your country, how women are affected by it, and efforts to tackle with climate change issues with gender perspectives

     

    B. Efforts to achieve SDG 5 as well as to mainstream gender in other Goals, that is, efforts to achieve gender equality, empower women and girls, and to integrate gender perspectives into all the SDGs

     

    C. Assessment of 1) current challenges that affect the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as well as the achievement of gender equality and of the empowerment of women; and 2) the Declaration and Platform’s contribution towards the full realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

      
  2. To participate in a KFAW/FC meeting via web conferencing   
  3. To provide KFAW with information on some important developments in the area
    of gender as well as to respond efficiently to inquiries with regard to gender raised by KFAW.
  4. To be engaged in some public information activities for KFAW

 

Duration of the assignment as a FC
Nine months from July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.

Honorarium
Japanese Yen (JPY) 24,000. KFAW will not cover any transfer fee charged by your bank. The payment of the honorarium will be made in US dollars equivalent to JPY 24,000 at the exchange rate on the remittance date. Honorarium shall be paid upon the completion of the term when a FC fulfills satisfactorily his/her assignments. Honorarium shall not be paid when an essay is found to be plagiarized.

  2. Headshot
  3. Essay of up to 1,200 characters (Japanese) or 700 words (English
  4. 2 or 3 photographs related to your essay. Please include caption.
    (Please make sure that the total size of photos is less than 3MB.)

 

Other details

  1. KFAW will notify all applicants of selection results by e-mail in July 2020.
  2. Copyrights for the essays/reports and photographs submitted to KFAW by applicants/correspondents shall belong to KFAW.
  3. The essays will be published in the newsletter, Asian Breeze, or on our website.  Note that KFAW may edit your original texts as necessary.
