"Examining Education Trajectories and Views on Employment and Marriage: A Case of Female Students in Higher Education in Trivandrum, India and Kitakyushu, Japan"

An increasing number of Japanese women go to higher education and pursue their careers. Many of them get married at later ages and some opt out of marriage. The major reason is difficulties involved in balancing work inside and outside of the home. In Kerala, India, although the educational level of women is on the rise, it is not easy to find employment. They have virtually no options other than marriage. This research examines education trajectories and views on employment and marriage for female students in higher education in Trivandrum, India and Kitakyushu, Japan who live under very different circumstances. Moreover, it considers the relationship between education and empowerment.
